Blooming Prep Parent Resource Series

Choking is one of the leading safety concerns for infants and young children, but many choking incidents can be prevented through proper supervision, safe eating habits, and age-appropriate toys and materials.

Common Choking Hazards

Foods such as whole grapes, hot dogs, popcorn, nuts, hard candy, marshmallows, and large chunks of food can pose choking risks. Small household objects including coins, button batteries, marbles, pen caps, and small toy parts can also be dangerous.

Safe Eating Habits

Children should always sit while eating and be supervised during meals and snacks. Encourage small bites, chewing thoroughly, and avoiding talking, walking, running, or playing while eating.

Toy and Play Safety

Choose age-appropriate toys, regularly inspect items for damage, and avoid toys with small detachable parts. Check product recalls and follow manufacturer safety recommendations.

Introducing Foods Safely

Discuss developmental readiness and food introduction with your pediatrician. Introduce foods gradually and ensure they are prepared in a safe, age-appropriate manner.

Emergency Preparedness

Parents and caregivers are encouraged to learn CPR and choking first aid. Knowing how to respond quickly during an emergency can help save a child’s life.

How We Support Safety at Blooming Prep

All Blooming Prep staff maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications and participate in ongoing safety training. We follow strict supervision, meal safety, and emergency preparedness procedures designed to support the health and safety of every child in our care.
